What is Longevity Medicine?

Longevity medicine is a type of healthcare that focuses on helping people live longer, healthier lives. Instead of just treating sickness, it looks for ways to keep the body strong, prevent disease, and slow down aging. Doctors who practice longevity medicine use tools like lab tests, weight control, exercise, hormone management and cellular metabolism, usine new treatments to support the body at every stage of life. The goal is not just to live longer, but to feel better and stay active as you get older.

Restoring Youth and Vitality

If I were to sum up the theme of my clinic it’s this: we want to slow down or reverse the aging process.  My focus is not only to extend the number of years of your life, but more importantly to extend the portion of your life where you feel young, productive, active and can enjoy the years that you have.

The overall effect of each individual component is to bring your body back to a state of youth –when you were healthier and felt better. Whether it’s getting rid of that chronic shoulder injury that prevented you from playing sports, replacing depleted hormones that gives you a youthful libido, or helping you lose weight, my goal is essentially to get you back to a state where are you feel better, look better, and have happier relationships.

The real goal of anti-aging is to stay healthy and live to your maximum lifespan while feeling youthful, healthy and active for as long as possible.

What can I do to live a long life?

If you want to live a long healthy life there are five things that you can do without ever talking to a doctor:

  1. don’t smoke cigarettes
  2. stop eating sugar
  3. exercise regularly
  4. restrict the amount of calories you consume
  5. expose yourself regularly to extreme environments such as hot or cold

All five of these have been proven scientifically to result in a longer lifespan.  For most people it’s extremely difficult to do all five of these so we turn to other medical treatments to assist or mimic the effects of these processes.

What is your anti-aging protocol?

I’ve developed a five-step program that is at the heart of my anti-agingprotocol. I call this the Longevity Code.  The five steps can be applied to every single person and can be customized to the individual needs of each patient. The five steps include:

  1. Full medical evaluation and initiation of longevity treatments,
  2. Treating specific hormone deficiencies,
  3. Safely improving growth hormone levels,
  4. Cellular energy optimization with NAD,
  5. Regeneration of injuries with peptide treatment.

Not everybody is built the same and not everybody has the same needs so the Longevity Code allows me to be extremely flexible and employ many different modalities of treatment, customizing it to the precise needs of my patient. No two people will have the same treatment protocol. It’s also essential to be grounded in the fundamentals of medicine to ensure that the treatments work properly, are safe, and effective.

What about all the supplements I see online?

There is a ton of information out there in the longevity field, and it can be very confusing to try and figure out what is real and what is not.  My job is to examine the scientific evidence and determine if it is supported by research, if it is available as a treatment, and how it should be administered to the patient.  Unfortunately, it turns out that the majority of anti-aging supplements out there will not perform as advertised.  There are usually four reasons for this:

  1. The supplement is poorly absorbed through the GI tract.
  2. The dose is not nearly high enough to provide an effect.
  3. There is no good scientific evidence for its use.
  4. The supplement is cheap and of poor quality.

Most times you are spending a lot of money and getting absolutely no benefit.

All of the medications and supplements I use have to pass a 4-step review process to ensure they are truly what they claim.  The medications, peptides and supplements that are part of my protocol are backed by scientific studies and must be administered in the correct way.  It is important that you get some direction from a medical doctor who has experience in the anti-aging field.

Conclusion:

Longevity Medicine is an exciting new field of medicine that takes the focus away from treating disease after it happens, and focuses on supporting health and preventing disease with the goal of extending lifespan as well as the number of healthy productive years of life.  This field encompasses everything I do in sports and regenerative medicine, hormone replacement therapy, cellular energy optimization, and weight management and the Longevity Code gives me a framework to develop a customized anti-aging treatment for my patients.

It is important to know that this is a new and complex field with a lot of information to filter through, a lot of treatments that end up being bogus, and a lot of non-medical personalities giving bad advice.  If you are interested in starting a Longevity program, choose an experienced physician in the field that can integrate all the different types of treatment and customize it for you.
